The comic began its run in 1981, making it one of the earliest alt comics of the decade. The series has a sprawling cast, from Maggie and Hopey to Luba and her family, and takes places all over, from Oxnard to Palomar. It has continued into the current day, although with a few breaks. L&R is currently in its fourth volume.
